When Olympic Flame has been striked, the official opinion is that "Olympic should not be politicized". But, when the games are over, in contrast, we look forward to improve our entrenched political image to the west by the Olympic splash. Is that reasonable? or just some sorts of bullshit inconsistency?
Despite the fact that the deeply-rooted stereotypes of such things are immoveable(even under Olympic forces), the largely ambivalent or even negative views may remain intact or becomes more ineradicable if we act otherwise than we said. Actually, there're two options at the early time for a trusted government. One is that, we expect the Olympic to bring political improvement of our image, and then, we should accept dissidents to show their opinions(e.g. the Darfur stuff) during the torch relay. Since we makes it politicized, it should be politicized for all people; the other way, kick those scaremongers' asses, then forget about setting up a positive image through Olympic, don't even think about it. At this point, Olympic is Olympic, nothing else. Only the autocracy government want to kick asses and set positive image at the same time, and only in a contry without freedom of journalism can these tricks succeed.
The Olympic is the most expensive one ever, but it is becoming less and less like Olympic. Fewer and fewer so called Olympic Spirits can be seen. Athletes, especially the Chinese ones, are trained in a extremely cruel way and it is at the cost of health and longevity. To the athletes, the gold medal is the only way to make them into somebodies out of nobodies. They are doing their routine training for gold medal, not for the sport itself. As for us, we only need gold medal winners, not athletes. Actually, The nowadays Olympic is getting far and far away from the original meaning, it is damaging the sport instead of promoting them.
The western press is critical of china, but have you seen how sensationalistic the mainland press is? The media oriention is under strict control of Chinese government. I fail to see any freedom of journalism. The Press is making gloss all the time. It makes us feel that we are capable of things actually we are not capable of. We are becoming too proud, too soon.
